Brain freeze

I've been busy with endless deadlines and emergency requests at work. I was so tired today that I thought to myself, "I can't remember if the city in Turkey is called Istanbul or Constantinople." Three minutes later, this song came on the radio. It was surreal... for so many reasons.

In other news, I love Gweneth Paltrow. This week's episode of Glee was the first one I've enjoyed this season.

After spending A LOT of time with extreme extroverts lately, I realized that two qualities I really value in others are the ability to think carefully and the ability to listen thoughtfully. I know a lot of people who regularly think things through, and several good listeners, but only two or three people who regularly do both. I really treasure their friendship. I am not always the world's greatest listener myself (the thinking takes over sometimes and I start going off on tangents), so I'm grateful that they put up with me. Introverts FTW!

Hazards of working 3 blocks from SXSW

Dear Internets,

As I was walking to the library this morning, a truck carrying five or six Port-a-Potties passed me. Fluids were dripping off the back of the truck that smelled suspiciously like the chemicals that go in the -ahem- potty portion of the Port-a-Potty.

My question is this: those had to be new/fresh Port-a-Potties, right? They wouldn't transport leaky used ones around town like that... right? It would be a public health hazard or something, right?

Yours (and yearning for a shower),
Jane

Unintentionally Funny

Dear Internets,

On my way home from my run this morning, I passed a sign inviting kids to sign up for youth cheerleading.

The name of the cheerleading squad?

Hot Balls.

No, I'm not kidding.

Shaking my head,
Jane

Hook 'em?

Dear Random Horn on the Highway,

What were you doing on the highway this morning, random horn?

You looked like one half of a set of those Cadillac horns people used to (supposedly) drive around with. (I've never seen any on a car in real life, except at Texas football games and amusement parks. And possibly once at a Hard Rock Cafe. On a school trip. Don't judge us. We were in middle school.)

If that is where you came from, where's your other half? Why were you out there all alone?

You were such a strange combination of loneliness, mysteriousness and danger. (If you were a man, I probably would have fallen in love immediately.)

I spent most of the rest of my drive trying to decide what would be a more random sight on the highway: half of a set of longhorn horns (like you) or some sort of brass horn, like a trumpet. On the one hand, a brass horn could easily fall out of a moving truck unnoticed.

On the other hand, this is Texas...

Yours bemusedly,
Jane

Who me?

Dear Puppy-dog,

It is not nice to dress you up in clothes. That is why I never do it, even though it would be *really* cute.

Nope. I'd never do such a thing.

Love,
Jane

Purple Goes Green

Dear Federal Reserve Peeps,

I'm all for prettifying our money and making it easier for the vision-impaired to use, but green and purple? For reals? I mean, I love purple as much as the next girl, but our money is starting to look like it was designed by the board of a food co-op. Why does our currency have to look like eggplants?

(I think it's the high contrast number 5 on the back of the $5 bill that gets me.)

Yours truly,
Jane

It's the economy, stupids

Dear Media,

Please stop trying to make me care about preachers and imaginary bombs and red phones... In case you haven't heard, we have a little bit of a WAR going on, gas is a zillion dollars a barrel, and lots and lots of people are losing their homes.

Thanks for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
Jane
