Working for the weekend (eventually)

Oh Internets... I am so ready to be done with working a bazillion (OK, 55 or so) hours a week. It's exhausting!

On the other hand, both of my jobs are going really well right now. My current students at my part time job are some of the best I've ever had. One of them even brought me an energy drink this evening (which suggests that even my students think I'm crazy for teaching in the evenings after work.)(This is probably why my brain is wide awake after midnight despite my body's desire to sleep. Darn you, caffeine!)

I really like my new main job so far. Of course, it's hard to say whether my enthusiasm will last. I am fairly distractible, and the newness of anything wears off after a while. (I have a friend who is fond of saying that the best two days of any job are the first day and the last. After all, sooner or later you'll realize that your boss is crazy and/or that some coworker really is going to drink a tuna fish smoothie for lunch.)(Right by your desk.)(Every single day.) But so far, I really enjoy my coworkers and the stuff I've been doing. I actually talk with people regularly throughout the day rather than once or twice a week. It's great.

The downside to all of this working is that I haven't had much time for anything else - Achilles, friends, commenting on blogs, my Netflix queue. Of course, this situation is very temporary, and I mostly feel incredibly lucky to be overemployed after my recent sticky job situation. In a couple of weeks, I'll be back to writing stand up, making boring condo repairs, expanding my knowledge of Japanese film, and beating metaphors to death on this blog and in your comments sections. In the meantime, I'm doing the best I can to enjoy the hustle and bustle while it lasts. As for Achilles - don't worry; he and I commute, run, and eat dinner together most nights. Secretly, I think he's enjoying the opportunity to play a few extra video games while I'm at work.

Anyway, this is all beginning to sound very disjointed. (My brain is ready for sleep. My body is ready for sleep. Now I just need my heart rate to get ready for sleep. No more energy drinks, even to be polite!) I'll be back in full force soon. In the meantime, take care of the Internets and yourself.

Wednesday Bullet Point Weecap

Dear Internets,

I slept through my alarm clock (I think*) this morning. It's always weird to get that extra hour or two of sleep. On one hand, I feel fantastic - yay sleep! On the other, I feel incredibly guilty for being late to work, life, etc. Anyway, I have been leaving a lot of loose ends on this blog lately, so I figured I'd do a quick recap/update.

*My alarm clock is 20 years old. I also "slept through" it a couple of weekends ago. I'm a little worried it might be about to kick the bucket.
  • Wedding dress - I think I finally decided on a dress. While it isn't particularly stunning or unique, it's a cute dress, and I think I'll be happy with it. I think I made the mistake of letting too many people have opinions on my dress, which just ended up being stressful.
  • My pen pal asked me if I've ever had a crush on a teacher. Short answer: um, yes. I will explain further in the next few days.
  • I quit drinking caffeine as part of my last minute diet/exercise plan before the wedding. I don't think my brain really works anymore without caffeine.
  • Achilles bought us dance lessons as a surprise. We start today. I'm very excited, as this will allow me 1.) not to look quite as foolish at the wedding as I expected to look, and 2.) allow me to cross #21 off my 30 Before 30 list.
  • My last comedy class was horrible. I was shaking so much they could actually see me shaking in the back row. I also said "Umm..." 36 times. Don't worry, Internets. I'm still planning to perform and post the video.
I hope your week is flying by, Internets!

Love,
Jane

Decaf

Dear Internets,

I noticed that the number/quality of my blog posts dramatically declined at exactly the same time my doctor told me to quit drinking caffeine.

I think there must be a correlation, but my brain is not working fast enough to figure out what the relationship might be.

Love,
Jane

Switching to Decaf

Dear Caffeine,

Slowly weaning myself off of you has been, surprisingly, not the most terrible experience of my life. Who knew?

Love,
Jane

Dear Financial Crisis,

You suck. Keep your filthy paws off my family.

-Jane

Dear Lyn,

I'm so glad that you liked (or were able to fake appreciation for) your Christmas present. You are more fabulous than you know.

Love,
Jane

Dear Eyeball,

Please stop itching.

XOXO,
Jane

Dear Weather,

Warmish and drizzly is better than cold and drizzly. Keep it up.

Love,
Jane

Caffeine, Caffeine.... Last night I had an awful dream...

Dear Excedrin,

Why do I always forget that you have caffeine? Yesterday, I took one (just one!) of you around 5:00 in the afternoon. I remembered about the caffeine around 2:00 a.m. this morning, when I was laying in bed mentally composing blog posts and my Oscar acceptance speech and wondering why I felt so bouncy.

This morning I don't feel so bouncy.

You are on my list, Excedrin.
